Chicken Insulin Gene Enhancer Protein ISL-2 (ISL2) is a transcription factor belonging to the LIM-homeodomain family. It plays a crucial role in the development and differentiation of various tissues, including the nervous system and endocrine organs. ISL2 is predicted to enable DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity. It acts upstream of or within the negative regulation of neuron differentiation and is involved in the regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. In chickens, ISL2 is highly expressed in the central nervous system, genitourinary system, limb ectoderm, retina, and spinal ganglion.
