Target Information
Chicken Homeobox Protein MSX-2 (MSX2) is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in embryonic development, particularly in the formation of the craniofacial structures, limbs, and heart. It is a member of the homeobox gene family and is involved in epithelial-mesenchymal interactions during organogenesis. MSX2 is essential for the proper development of the atrioventricular (AV) valves in the heart, where it regulates signals required for AV valve morphogenesis. In addition, MSX2 has been implicated in the regulation of osteoblast differentiation and bone formation, where it can act as a negative regulator of these processes. Abnormal expression of MSX2 has been associated with various developmental disorders and diseases, including craniosynostosis and cardiovascular calcification.
