Target Information
Chicken guanylyl cyclase-activating protein 2 (GUCA1B) is a calcium-binding protein that plays a key role in the retina. It regulates cGMP synthesis by activating retinal guanylyl cyclases (RetGCs) under low calcium ion conditions and inhibiting them under high calcium levels. This mechanism is crucial for photoreceptor recovery from light stimulation. Mutations in GUCA1B can lead to retinal dystrophies, including retinitis pigmentosa.
