Target Information
Chicken Calponin-1 (CNN1) is a critical protein involved in the regulation of smooth muscle contraction. First identified in chicken gizzard smooth muscle in 1986, CNN1 functions as an actin-binding protein that inhibits actomyosin ATPase activity and modulates muscle contractility. It is highly expressed in smooth muscle cells and serves as a marker for differentiated smooth muscle. CNN1 expression is developmentally regulated, with high levels in the digestive tract and lower levels in the avian trachea. In embryonic development, CNN1 is detectable in the dorsal aorta and tubular heart of E9.5 mouse fetuses, highlighting its role in vascular and cardiac development.
