Target Information
Canine renin is a key enzyme in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) in dogs, which is crucial for regulating blood pressure and fluid balance. It is released by the juxtaglomerular cells in response to decreased blood pressure or reduced sodium concentration in the renal tubules. Renin acts by converting angiotensinogen to angiotensin I, which is then converted to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor that stimulates aldosterone secretion and increases sodium and water reabsorption in the kidneys, ultimately raising blood pressure.
