Target Information

NT-proBNP is a cardiac biomarker released from the heart's ventricles in response to increased wall stress or pressure overload. The prohormone is cleaved into the active hormone BNP and the inactive NT-proBNP fragment. Due to its greater stability and longer half-life, NT-proBNP is a valuable diagnostic tool in veterinary cardiology to assess the severity of heart disease, distinguish cardiac from respiratory causes of respiratory distress, and screen for occult cardiomyopathies in dogs.
