Target Information

Canine natriuretic peptides A, specifically B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), are secreted mainly from the cardiac ventricles and play a pivotal role in regulating cardiovascular homeostasis. They are involved in vasodilation, diuresis, and natriuresis, which help to balance the effects of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and maintain fluid and blood pressure homeostasis in response to myocardial stress or strain due to increased volume. BNP is particularly important in the diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring of heart diseases in dogs, as it can indicate congestive processes and, indirectly, myocardial function. It is also used to manage conditions like heart failure by promoting the relaxation of blood vessels and the excretion of excess fluid through the kidneys.
