Target Information
The Fusion (F) protein is a class I viral fusion protein that facilitates CDV entry by merging the viral envelope with the host cell membrane. It is synthesized as an inactive precursor, F0, which must be proteolytically cleaved by host cell furin-like proteases into the disulfide-linked F1 and F2 subunits to become biologically active. This process is triggered at neutral pH following the binding of the Hemagglutinin (H) protein to host receptors (SLAM or Nectin-4). Because it is essential for viral penetration and the formation of syncytia (cell-to-cell fusion), the F protein is a primary target for neutralizing antibodies and vaccine development.
