Canine Beta-Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) is a neurotrophin essential for the survival and maintenance of sensory and sympathetic neurons. In adult dogs, NGF acts as a key mediator of chronic pain and hyperalgesia, particularly in degenerative joint diseases. It signals through the high-affinity TrkA and low-affinity p75NTR receptors. Due to its elevated levels in canine osteoarthritis, it is the primary target for modern biological therapies, such as the monoclonal antibody bedinvetmab, designed to alleviate chronic musculoskeletal pain.
