Target Information

E2 (gp55) is the most immunodominant structural protein of BVDV and the primary target for neutralizing antibodies. As a Type I transmembrane protein, it forms heterodimers with E1 to facilitate viral attachment to host cell receptors, such as CD154. E2 is highly polymorphic, driving the antigenic diversity between BVDV-1 and BVDV-2 strains. Due to its essential role in cell entry and the induction of protective immunity, E2 is the cornerstone antigen for recombinant subunit vaccines and diagnostic screening assays.
