Target Information

E2 (gp53) is the primary structural glycoprotein and most significant immunodominant antigen of BVDV. It functions as the virus's receptor-binding protein, specifically interacting with bovine CD46 to facilitate cellular entry. Structurally, gp53 is a Type I transmembrane protein that often exists as a heterodimer with E1. Due to its exposure on the virion surface and its role in inducing potent neutralizing antibodies, E2 (gp53) is the critical component for recombinant vaccines, serological diagnostics, and genotype differentiation.
