Target Information

E2 (gp55/53) is the most immunodominant structural glycoprotein on the BVDV envelope and a primary target for neutralizing antibodies. It acts as the viral attachment protein, specifically binding to the host receptor CD46 to mediate cellular entry. E2 forms disulfide-linked heterodimers with E1, a complex essential for membrane fusion. Due to its high antigenic variability and critical role in infection, E2 is the cornerstone for developing subunit vaccines, diagnostic ELISAs, and phylogenetic genotyping of BVDV strains.
