Target Information
Bovine prokineticin receptor 1 (PROKR1) is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds to prokineticin 1 (PROK1), a peptide with various biological functions. PROK1, also known as endocrine gland-derived vascular endothelial growth factor (EG-VEGF), is involved in angiogenesis and has mitogenic effects on the endothelial cells of microvessels near endocrine glands. It also influences smooth muscle contractility in the intestines. The binding of PROK1 to PROKR1 initiates a signaling cascade that can lead to the activation of protein kinase C, mitogen-activated protein kinase, phosphoinositide 3 kinase, or protein kinase B pathways. In Bovines, PROKR1 is expressed in steroidogenic cells and blood vessels within the corpus luteum, suggesting its role in luteal function, including steroidogenesis and angiogenesis, which are crucial for early pregnancy maintenance.
