Target Information

Bovine betacellulin (bTC) is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family, which is known to play a significant role in the growth and differentiation of various cell types, including pancreatic beta cells
. In cattle, bTC is expressed in a wide range of tissues and is particularly abundant in the mammary gland, suggesting its importance in milk for the growth and development of the neonatal gastrointestinal tract
. It is also involved in immune regulation and has been identified as a major peptide growth factor in milk, with potential roles in the maintenance of skin homeostasis and the promotion of cell proliferation and differentiation
. bTC's effects are mediated through binding to EGFR and other ErbB receptors, activating signaling pathways critical for cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation.
