Target Information
The Polymeric Immunoglobulin Receptor (pIgR) is a transmembrane protein encoded by the PIGR gene in cattle. pIgR facilitates the transcytosis of the soluble polymeric isoforms of immunoglobulin A (IgA) and immunoglobulin M (IgM), as well as immune complexes. It is mainly located on the epithelial lining of mucosal surfaces in the gastrointestinal tract. IgAs are produced by plasma cells and transported across epithelial cells by polymeric immunoglobulin receptors (pIgRs).
