Target Information
Bovine tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase 3 (TIMP3) is a protein that belongs to the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases family. It is a secreted protein that plays a role in the inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are enzymes that break down components of the extracellular matrix. TIMP3 is unique among the TIMPs as it is the only member that tightly binds to the extracellular matrix (ECM) through its interaction with sulfated glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), such as heparan sulfate proteoglycans
. In cattle, TIMP3 is involved in the maintenance of tissue homeostasis, inhibition of angiogenesis, and regulation of inflammation. It also plays a role in the suppression of certain cancers and is implicated in various physiological processes including embryonic development, tissue remodeling, and wound healing. The balance between TIMP3 and MMPs is crucial for preventing excessive degradation of the ECM, which can lead to pathological conditions such as tissue fibrosis and cancer progression .
