Target Information
Bovine selectin, leukocyte (SELL) is a cell surface glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in the immune system of Bovines. It is primarily expressed on the surface of white blood cells, especially lymphocytes, and is also found on vascular endothelial cells. SELL functions by mediating cellular adhesion and migration through interactions with molecules such as heparan sulfate on endothelial cells, facilitating the entry of leukocytes into tissues where inflammation or immune responses are occurring. This protein's engagement with its ligands can trigger intracellular signaling, potentially leading to changes in calcium levels and cytoskeletal rearrangements, which regulate cell motility. SELL is essential for lymphocyte homing to lymphoid organs, immune surveillance, and participation in inflammatory reactions. Dysregulation or abnormal expression of SELL can be associated with immune-related diseases, including autoimmune and chronic inflammatory conditions.
