Target Information
Bovine interleukin 22 (IL-22) is a cytokine that plays a crucial role in the immune response and tissue repair in cattle. It is part of the IL-10 family of cytokines and signals through a receptor complex consisting of IL-22R1 and IL-10R2 chains. IL-22 is particularly important for maintaining the integrity of epithelial barriers and promoting the regeneration of epithelial tissues. It enhances the expression of mucin genes and stimulates the proliferation of epithelial cells. Additionally, IL-22 regulates innate immune responses by inducing the production of antimicrobial peptides and proinflammatory cytokines. The balance of IL-22 signaling is essential, as its dysregulation can lead to chronic inflammatory diseases and other immune-related disorders. As a result, IL-22 is considered a potential therapeutic target for various conditions in cattle where immune modulation and tissue protection are required.
