Target Information

Bovine interleukin 18 (IL18) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a pivotal role in the immune system of cattle. IL18 is involved in the activation of natural killer (NK) cells and T cells, particularly Th1 cells, leading to the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). This protein is multifunctional, promoting inflammation, angiogenesis, and having a role in the pathogenesis of various diseases, including autoimmune conditions and cancer. IL18 also contributes to the regulation of glucose homeostasis and can influence insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells. The balance of IL18 is critical, as its dysregulation can lead to chronic inflammatory diseases. Its role in immune modulation makes IL18 a significant factor in both physiological and pathological conditions in cattle.
