Target Information
Bovine interleukin 1 alpha (IL1A) is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays a crucial role in the inflammatory response and immune system of cattle. IL1A, primarily produced by macrophages, neutrophils, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells, acts as a potent mediator of local inflammation and a pyrogen causing fever. This protein is known for its ability to induce the production of other cytokines, chemokines, and matrix metalloproteinases, which are essential for tissue remodeling and defense against pathogens. IL1A also contributes to the activation of T cells and the promotion of B cell differentiation and antibody production. The unique characteristic of IL1A is that it is active in its precursor form and can function both intracellularly as a transcription factor and extracellularly in signaling. The multifunctional nature of IL1A makes it a significant player in both physiological and pathological conditions in cattle, including immune responses to infections and the development of inflammatory diseases.
