Target Information
Bovine Coagulation Factor VIII (F8) is a critical protein in the coagulation cascade, essential for blood clotting and hemostasis. It is synthesized primarily in the liver and circulates in the blood in complex with von Willebrand factor (vWF), which stabilizes F8 and protects it from degradation. F8 acts as a cofactor for activated Factor IX (FIXa) in the presence of calcium and phospholipids, forming the tenase complex, which converts Factor X to its activated form (FXa). This step is crucial for the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation, leading to the formation of thrombin and ultimately a stable blood clot. Deficiencies or dysfunction of F8 lead to hemophilia A, a severe bleeding disorder characterized by prolonged bleeding and poor clot formation. In bovine systems, F8 is vital for maintaining normal hemostasis and preventing excessive bleeding during injury or surgical procedures.
