Target Information
Bovine coagulation factor V is a glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in the coagulation cascade, contributing to both procoagulant and anticoagulant functions. It is activated by thrombin or activated factor X (FXa) to form activated factor V (FVa), which then acts as a cofactor for FXa in the prothrombinase complex, leading to the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin. This process is essential for the formation of a fibrin clot and stopping bleeding. Factor V also has an anticoagulant role through its interaction with activated protein C (APC), which helps to inhibit the activity of FVa and FVIIIa, thus preventing excessive clot formation.
