Target Information
Bovine cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme, mitochondrial, also known as cytochrome P450scc (CYP11A1), is a crucial enzyme in the biosynthesis of steroid hormones. It is responsible for catalyzing the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone, which is the first and rate-limiting step in the production of all steroid hormones. This reaction involves initial hydroxylation at the C22 position, followed by a second hydroxylation at the C20 position, and finally, the oxidative cleavage of the C20-C22 bond, resulting in the formation of pregnenolone. CYP11A1 is a mitochondrial enzyme that requires electrons provided by NADPH through a short electron transport chain involving adrenodoxin reductase and adrenodoxin.
