Bovine beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase 1 (B4GALT1) is a key enzyme in the Bovine trans-Golgi network responsible for catalyzing the transfer of galactose from UDP-galactose to N-acetylglucosamine, forming a β1-4-glycosidic linkage. This process is essential for the biosynthesis of complex carbohydrates and is particularly important during lactation, where it forms lactose synthase with α-lactalbumin, leading to the production of lactose, a hallmark of mammalian milk. B4GALT1 also plays a role in cell signaling and cell-matrix interactions, such as sperm-egg binding .

User Note
