Target Information
Bovine alpha 2-antiplasmin (A2AP), also known as α2-plasmin inhibitor, is a serine protease inhibitor that plays a critical role in the regulation of fibrinolysis. It is the primary inhibitor of plasmin, a key enzyme in the breakdown of blood clots. A2AP functions by binding to plasmin, thereby preventing the degradation of fibrin and maintaining hemostasis. This protein is essential for balancing the clotting and fibrinolytic systems in the body. It is also being studied for its therapeutic potential in conditions such as hemorrhage and in the development of fibrin-based biomaterials for surgery and regenerative medicine.
