Target Information

Der f 1 is a potent cysteine protease and a primary initiator of allergic sensitization from the American house dust mite, Dermatophagoides farinae. Found in high concentrations in mite fecal pellets, it facilitates allergen entry by degrading tight junctions in the airway epithelium. It is a major target for IgE antibodies in over 80% of mite-allergic patients and is essential for standardizing diagnostic extracts and developing subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) formulations.
