Target Information
The 9GL protein, encoded by the highly conserved B119L gene, is a critical virulence factor and non-structural enzyme of the African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV). It is a member of the Erv1/ALR family of sulfhydryl oxidases, functioning as a Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide (FAD)-linked enzyme. 9GL plays a pivotal role in the viral life cycle by catalyzing the formation of disulfide bonds in the host cell cytoplasm, which is essential for the correct folding and maturation of viral structural proteins. Because its deletion leads to significant viral attenuation, 9GL is one of the most important targets for the development of live-attenuated vaccines (LAVs).
