Target Information

Glutathione peroxidase 1 catalyzes the reduction of hydroperoxides in a glutathione-dependent manner, thereby maintaining cellular redox homeostasis. It is capable of reducing small soluble hydroperoxides such as H2O2, cumene hydroperoxide, and tert-butyl hydroperoxide, along with various fatty acid-derived hydroperoxides. In platelets, it specifically catalyzes the reduction of 12-hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid, the main product of the arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase pathway. GPX1 protects cells from oxidative stress damage mainly through its antioxidant function in rabbits and plays an important role in a variety of biological and pathological processes. Its expression and activity are regulated by a variety of factors, including selenium status, oxidation levels, and interactions with other proteins.
