Target Information

Type X collagen is a short-chain collagen produced by hypertrophic chondrocytes during endochondral ossification. In contrast to type VIII collagen, another short-chain collagen, type X collagen is a homotrimer. COL10 is primarily synthesized by hypertrophic chondrocytes, cells in the growth plate that undergo hypertrophy (enlargement) before bone formation. It forms a specialized collagen network within the hypertrophic cartilage matrix, providing structural support. While COL10 is primarily expressed in hypertrophic cartilage of the growth plate, changes in its expression can also occur in osteoarthritis, making it relevant to those studies. Rabbit models may provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of cartilage and bone development.
