Target Information

Calretinin, also known as calbindin 2, is a calcium-binding protein that plays a role in calcium signaling. It is abundantly expressed in neurons, including retinal cells, which inspired its name, and cortical interneurons. In rabbits, calretinin is encoded by the CALB2 gene. Calretinin is expressed in several brain regions in rabbits, including areas of the thalamus (claustrum) and telencephalic cortex (endopialobe). Neurons in these regions show significant morphological heterogeneity, and calretinin-positive neurons are usually located in specific projection areas.
