Rat WASP is a cytoplasmic cytoskeletal regulator with conserved protein-binding functional domains that maintain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It accumulates primarily in hematopoietic immune cell populations and coordinates intracellular actin assembly via multiprotein complexes. Its multi-domain adaptor structure and immune-restricted expression differentiate it from secreted signaling cytokines, transmembrane surface receptors and chromatin-interacting nuclear transcription factors with simplified single-domain assemblies broadly present across non-hematopoietic somatic cell groups.
