Target Information
Rat von Willebrand factor A domain-containing protein 1 (VWA1, also known as WARP) is an extracellular matrix adaptor that binds collagen VI and perlecan, anchoring cartilage and vascular basement membranes. Its single VWA domain supplies a metal-ion-dependent adhesion site which docks onto fibrillar collagens and proteoglycans, stabilizing tissue architecture during development and adulthood. Because VWA1 is highly expressed in cartilage, aorta and skeletal muscle yet virtually absent from plasma, it offers a precise tissue-localized epitope for antibody generation; anti-VWA1 immunoreagents enable specific detection of matrix remodeling events without cross-reaction to circulating von Willebrand factor.
