Rat TOPBP1 is a nuclear scaffold protein with multiple conserved DNA and protein interaction domains that maintain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It exists abundantly in dividing cell populations and assembles large multi-protein complexes at chromatin regions within cell nuclei. Its multi-domain genome-stabilizing architecture and nuclear localization differentiate it from secreted cytokines, membrane transporters and cytoplasmic signaling mediators with simplified single-domain assemblies broadly distributed across non-proliferative somatic cell subgroups.
