Target Information

Rat surfactant associated protein A2 (SP-A2) is a secreted glycoprotein of the collectin family. It harbors a conserved N-terminal collagen-like domain, a central neck region and a C-terminal carbohydrate recognition domain critical for structural stability. It localizes to pulmonary surfactant and alveolar spaces, with tissue-specific expression restricted to rat lung tissue, with negligible levels in other organs. The protein mediates surfactant assembly and ligand binding, with conserved motifs for intermolecular interaction. Rat SP-A2 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct specificity differentiating it from surfactant associated protein A1 (SP-A1).
