Target Information
Rat Superoxide Dismutase 3 (SOD3), also known as Extracellular Superoxide Dismutase (EC-SOD), is a key antioxidant enzyme that scavenges superoxide radicals in the extracellular space. It is a secreted, tetrameric glycoprotein containing copper and zinc in its active site, with a molecular weight of approximately 135 kDa. SOD3 converts superoxide radicals into hydrogen peroxide, protecting cells and tissues from oxidative damage. It is highly expressed in the lungs and blood vessels, where it plays a crucial role in maintaining redox balance and regulating nitric oxide (NO) levels. Additionally, SOD3 has anti-inflammatory properties and is involved in immune responses.
