Target Information
Rat semaphorin 4D (SEMA4D) is a transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by the Sema4d gene in Rattus norvegicus, mapped to chromosome 12. It belongs to the class IV semaphorin family, featuring a conserved N-terminal SEMA domain, a plexin-semaphorin-integrin domain, a transmembrane segment and a short cytoplasmic tail. It localizes to cell membrane, with tissue-specific expression in rat immune cells, neurons, endothelial and epithelial cells, with low levels in muscle tissues. The protein mediates cell guidance and intercellular interaction, with conserved motifs for ligand-receptor binding and structural stability. Rat SEMA4D shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct binding specificity differentiating it from SEMA4A and other semaphorin family members.
