Target Information
Rat S100 calcium-binding protein A16 (S100A16) is a 103-residue, 11 kDa member of the S100 family containing two canonical EF-hand motifs: a non-canonical N-terminal loop and a C-terminal calcium-binding loop with sub-millimolar affinity. The protein forms non-covalent dimers stabilized by hydrophobic residues at positions 42 and 86, exposing a basic patch for lipid interaction upon calcium binding. Constitutively expressed in lung, spleen and adipose tissue, S100A16 localizes to cytosol and nucleus, associating with lipid droplets and early endosomes. Antibodies raised against full-length recombinant rat S100A16 detect native, calcium-bound and oxidized forms with negligible cross-reactivity to other S100 proteins, enabling selective immunoblot and immunohistochemical visualization in rat tissue homogenates and sections.
