Rat Regulator of G-Protein Signaling 6 (RGS6) is a multifunctional protein that accelerates GTP hydrolysis on Gαi/o and Gαq subunits, dampening G-protein-coupled receptor signaling. It is expressed in brain, heart, and retina, modulating neurotransmission, cardiac conduction, and nociception. RGS6 also recruits DNA repair enzymes, linking signal termination to genome maintenance. As a key brake on G-protein pathways, RGS6 is an important target for studies of neural function, cardiac rhythm, and stress responses.
