Target Information
Rat receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (RAGE) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily, a key mediator of pro-inflammatory signaling. It features three conserved extracellular Ig-like domains, a single transmembrane segment, and a C-terminal cytoplasmic tail critical for structural integrity and downstream signal transduction. It localizes to the cell membranes of rat vascular endothelial cells, monocytes and neurons, with negligible levels in epithelial and skeletal muscle tissues. The protein mediates ligand binding and inflammatory cascade activation, with conserved motifs for advanced glycation endproduct recognition. Rat RAGE shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct ligand affinity differentiating it from other Ig-superfamily receptors.
