Rat RSPO1 is a secreted extracellular protein constructed with conserved furin-like cysteine-rich repeats and thrombospondin structural domains to maintain stable conformation under physiological conditions. It is secreted and deposited in interstitial spaces of epithelial and gonadal cell populations. Its secreted matrix-associated structure and extracellular distribution separate it from intracellular cytoplasmic scaffolds, nuclear transcriptional factors and multi-pass transmembrane receptors with compact single-domain assemblies and fixed single-compartment subcellular localization profiles.
