Target Information
Rat pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is a 50-kDa secreted glycoprotein predominantly expressed in rat retinal pigment epithelium, liver, and adipose tissue. It belongs to the serine protease inhibitor superfamily, exerting multifunctional roles: inhibiting angiogenesis by suppressing endothelial cell proliferation and migration, regulating lipid metabolism, and exerting anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. Critical for rat retinal homeostasis, vascular integrity, and metabolic balance, its dysregulation associates with age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and metabolic disorders. As a key mediator of angiogenesis, neuroprotection, and lipid metabolism, rat PEDF is a critical target for studying ocular pathologies, metabolic diseases, and anti-angiogenic therapeutics.
