Target Information
Rat oncoprotein induced transcript 3 (OIT3) is a transmembrane protein encoded by the Oit3 gene in Rattus norvegicus, mapped to chromosome 1. It belongs to the transmembrane 4 superfamily, featuring multiple conserved hydrophobic transmembrane domains and a short C-terminal cytoplasmic tail with no enzymatic motifs. It localizes primarily to cell membrane and endosomal compartments, with tissue-specific expression in rat spleen, lung, liver and immune cells, with low levels in muscle and neural tissues. The protein mediates membrane protein trafficking and cell-cell interaction, with conserved structural motifs critical for subcellular localization. Rat OIT3 shares core domain architectures with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct expression patterns differentiating it from other transmembrane 4 family members.
