Rat NCSTN is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein with conserved extracellular substrate-binding domains that sustain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It integrates into multi-protein protease complexes within the membrane of neuronal and epithelial cell populations. Its membrane-embedded multi-domain structural feature and tissue-selective abundance differentiate it from soluble secreted cytokines, cytoplasmic scaffold adaptors and chromatin-binding nuclear transcriptional regulators with simplified single-domain assemblies and ubiquitous expression across general somatic tissues.
