Target Information

Rat neurokinin B (NKB) is a ten-amino-acid amidated peptide (Asp-Met-His-Asp-Phe-Phe-Val-Gly-Leu-Met-NH₂) derived from proteolytic cleavage of the 121-residue preprotachykinin B precursor. Four residues (Phe⁵-Phe⁶-Val⁷) create a hydrophobic core, while the C-terminal methioninamide confers high-affinity binding to the neurokinin 3 receptor. Expressed selectively in hypothalamic arcuate neurons and spinal interneurons, NKB is packaged into dense-core vesicles and co-released with kisspeptin. Antibodies raised against the full amidated decapeptide or C-terminal fragment detect native NKB with negligible cross-reactivity to substance P or neurokinin A, enabling precise immunohistochemical and immunoblot visualization in rat brain extracts and tissue sections.
