Target Information

Rat Nestin is a class VI intermediate filament protein, a core structural component and marker of neural stem/progenitor cells and developing tissues. It features a conserved central α-helical rod domain for filament assembly, N-terminal and C-terminal globular domains, and structural motifs critical for cytoskeletal integrity and cell plasticity. It localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm of rat neural tube, neuroepithelium and developing muscle tissues, with negligible expression in mature differentiated cells. The protein mediates cytoskeletal reorganization and cell migration, with conserved motifs for binding to other intermediate filament proteins. Rat Nestin shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue specificity differentiating it from vimentin and glial fibrillary acidic protein.
