Target Information
Rat mucosae-associated epithelial chemokine (MEC/CCL28) is a 12 kDa secreted CC-chemokine whose C-terminal tail folds into a heparin-binding α-helix that tethers the peptide to mucosal surfaces, while the N-loop engages CCR10 and CCR3 for plasma-cell and eosinophil recruitment. A solvent-exposed "QEK" motif (aa 25-31) within the 30s helix is unique among rat chemokines, presenting a strain-specific epitope preserved after secretion and fixation. Polyclonal antibodies directed against this sequence detect native MEC in salivary glands, colon epithelium, and airway fluid, yielding crisp apical staining and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to CCL27 or other CC-family ligands.
