Target Information
Rat microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 alpha (LC3A) is a 17 kDa autophagy marker whose C-terminal Gly residue is exposed upon ATG4 cleavage, then lipidated to anchor phagophore membranes. A solvent-exposed 12-residue "EEK" loop (aa 30-41) at the N-terminus folds into a β-hairpin unique among rat LC3 paralogs, presenting a conformational epitope preserved in both cytosolic LC3-I and membrane-bound LC3-II forms. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native LC3A in hepatic autophagosomes, neuronal dendrites, and cardiomyocyte sarcoplasm, delivering crisp punctate staining and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to LC3B or LC3C.
