Rat MPP3 is a palmitoylated integral membrane protein with conserved protein-interacting and lipid-binding domains that sustain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It is predominantly distributed in epithelial and neural cell populations and forms cell junction-associated multiprotein complexes at plasma membrane regions. Its multi-domain membrane anchoring framework and tissue-selective expression differentiate it from soluble secreted cytokines, cytoplasmic signaling adaptors and nuclear transcriptional factors with simplified single-domain assemblies widely found across non-polarized somatic cell subgroups.
