Rat MMP23A is a membrane-tethered metalloproteinase featuring conserved catalytic zinc-binding and hemopexin-like domains that sustain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It localizes to plasma membranes of epithelial, reproductive and connective tissue cell populations. Its membrane-bound extracellular matrix remodeling architecture and tissue-restricted expression differentiate it from soluble circulating cytokines, cytoplasmic signal adaptors and intranuclear transcriptional regulators with streamlined single-domain assemblies and static single-compartment subcellular localization profiles.
