Target Information

Rat lactate dehydrogenase C (LDHC) is a 329-residue testis-specific isoform of the LDH family, forming homotetrameric 140 kDa complexes that catalyze the interconversion of pyruvate and lactate using NADH/NAD⁺. The subunit exhibits a unique Pro → Gln substitution at position 233 within the catalytic loop, conferring enhanced thermal stability and reduced pH sensitivity. Exclusively expressed in post-meiotic spermatocytes and spermatids, LDHC localizes to the cytoplasmic droplet of developing sperm. Antibodies raised against full-length recombinant rat LDHC detect native and acetylated forms with negligible cross-reactivity to LDHA or LDHB, enabling selective immunoblot and immunohistochemical visualization in rat testicular homogenates and epididymal sections.
